group performance coaching

It is all too common for musicians to be disappointed with the quality of their important performances. It is also common for this disappointment to not only effect the next performance, but for these unpleasant and frustrating experiences to effect physical and mental wellbeing.

These two course are intended as example frameworks of how I work with groups of musicians - high school bands to elite music institutions and professional orchestras. These courses are just a sample of how I can work with your musicians, and the courses can be customised to any situation including length, frequency and quantity of sessions.

introduction program

This 2 session package provides a concise and meaningful demonstration of how this work can help musicians move closer to their best performance. The evidence based program consists of music making, mental skills, writing and reflection, practice room skills, psychoeducation and group discussion.

session one: getting to know you

This session is intended to build trust and set the tone for the workshop in the 2nd session.

In this session I will be introducing musicians to my approach and teaching mental skills to help improve performance quality. This session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other, to begin to experience the approach and demonstrate how this unique approach can help musicians flourish through important performances.

session two: music performance workshop

This session is a supportive and fun workshop that will demonstrate the application of the concepts introduced in session 1 within a live music performance. It involves psychoeducation, mental skills practice, questions and discussion.

The exciting part of this workshop is live performer talking about performing, and then guiding the role play to help the performer focus on giving the performance they want, while at the same time allowing their inner critics to do what they do.

This introduction program consists of 2 x 90 minutes sessions, and includes email support for teachers, phone conversations with parent/caregiver and/or musician/s performing in workshop. Both sessions are suitable to a group of 6-12 students, but the session 2 workshop can additionally include a larger audience of other interested music students.
