personalised coaching courses
It is all too common for musicians to be disappointed with the experience and quality of their important performances. It is also common for these experiences to not only effect the next performance, but for these frustrations to effect the musician's general health and wellbeing.
These one-on-one, psychologically based courses are delivered by experienced coach and professional musician. These sessions will teach and support you to improve the quality of your performance and the quality of your life.
single session
I offer this single 90 minute session for you to experience what it is like for us to work together. If you would like to continue, the session fee of $150 will be applied to any course you choose. Our work together will be most effective with a sustained commitment.
shine
This course is intended for a musician with a fast approaching audition, recital or high pressure exam. This course is structured for accelerated progress when the motivation, focus and need for support is most compelling. There are two pillars of support in the audition course – coaching sessions and between-session support.
In the coaching sessions we focus on preparing you for your best possible performance on the day. We explore thoughts, feelings and physical sensations that arise as you prepare for the audition, recital or exam and we learn strategies to help with them. I teach you mental skills to help with strengthening your attentional muscle and exercises to help deal with uncomfortable physical symptoms. I encourage you to play in the session so you will understand how these skills apply to improve your performance under pressure.
The between-session support reinforces skills introduced in session and helps to apply these skills to practice routines and preparation performances. I could offer you daily practice routines or exercises from my online course. I may prompt you in a number of ways via text, for instance to take performance risks to practice getting used to normal performance feelings. These reminders and prompts are intended to keep you focussed as pressure builds.
This support is via email or a messaging app, and the content and frequency can be customised for each client. Some people need practice plans to motivate them, some need to be reminded to limit over-practicing, and some find prompts helpful in making sure they are organising performance experiences to reliably and flexibly step into performance mode.
$1200 for 6 x 90 minute sessions and 6 weeks of between-session support
flexible
This course is intended for a broad range of challenges that face performing musicians - performance anxiety, stress, burn-out, lack of motivation, post-audition recovery or changing career direction. It is a more sustained and gradual support than the high impact audition course and the content is adaptable and flexible to meet the need of the individual musician.
The learning curriculum could be similar to the audition course – skills to improve you focussed attention or acceptance skills to help with symptoms such as shaking or making mistakes. These sessions can also include your instrument if needed and might even look a lot like a music lesson but with the added benefit of psychological skills. As an experienced musician and teacher, I am also able to offer artistic feedback if appropriate. Sessions can include help with setting goals, education about psychological skills and between session work can include writing exercises, mindfulness exercises, visualisations, listening, reading or completing worksheets.
Sessions can be face to face or online. Appointments are scheduled weekly or fortnightly in order to build momentum and change.
